Moon Days
Traditionally Ashtanga Yoga isn’t practised on new and full moon days. The gravitational pull of the moon on the earth has a strong effect on our subtle energetic state. The energy is more pronounced on these days, and this is commonly visible when observing the tides in the ocean. Since the planet and our bodies are mostly made up of water, this is likely to have an effect on our physical and psychological state. Even if you aren’t convinced by this theory, when asana is practised daily, the rest days are important for recovery. The extra bi-weekly ‘moon day’ comes as an extra welcomed rest.
